I stepped down the hall behind the stage, my footfalls light and ginger, my expression charged by withheld excitement. Coming upon the door with the characteristic golden star on it reading "Emery the Magnificent", I realized it was left, luckily, ajar a few inches. Delicately curling my fingers over its edge, I opened it, eliciting from the hinges a soft groan. Careful not to disturb the accomplished magician inside I stood in the doorway, rocking back and forth on my heels and clasping my hands behind me like an apprehensive schoolboy.
